3.3.2 is out the door

Posted by Synfinatic on June 20, 2008 in tcpreplay.

I released Tcpreplay 3.3.2 today. Almost all the bugs fixed and enhancements in this release were requested by users, so a big thanks to everyone who opened a ticket or emailed me their suggestions/bug reports.

Turning Lechers into Contributors

Posted by Synfinatic on June 2, 2008 in tcpreplay.

Yesterday, I touched on some of the problems of creating a pcap repository. I explained how you need to market the site to vendors in order to solicit their contributions, but obviously you need more then corporate donations to make the site successful- you need individuals. So how do you motivate the masses?

If I build it, will they come?

Posted by Synfinatic on June 1, 2008 in tcpreplay.

I originally wrote this post back in March ‘06, but never posted it. Since then, I’ve been distracted with other tasks and openpacket.org has gone live. I’ve decided to post this now, because I’m tired of being lazy.

———

So for about 4 years now (6 years as of 2008), I’ve had the idea of building a public repository where people can share pcap files. And I’m not the only one with this idea. And based on people asking for it regularly on various email lists, there seems to be demand for it. But will it work?

Mission statements

Posted by Synfinatic on May 31, 2008 in Life, tcpreplay.

So I was reading an article about a talk the Subversion authors gave and one of the things that stood out was the importance of having a mission statement to guide development and keep focus.

Tcpreplay 3.3.1 and the future

Posted by Synfinatic on May 18, 2008 in tcpreplay.

I’m proud to release the second stable version of the Tcpreplay 3.3 train. Things seem pretty stable right now, with many end-user reported bugs resolved. I’m not sure, but I’m hoping this is the last of the 3.3.x series so I can start working on new features.

Tcpreplay + Fragroute = v3.3.rc1

Posted by Synfinatic on April 27, 2008 in tcpreplay.

I’ve finally got a basic integration of Dug Song’s fragroute with tcprewrite. I’m pretty excited about this not only because it’s something I’ve wanted to do for over two years, but because it really shows the power of Open Source. Anyways, big thanks to Dug who made this possible not only by his work writing fragroute, but also choosing a license which allows people like me to use it in their own projects.

openpacket.org is open for business

Posted by Synfinatic on April 9, 2008 in tcpreplay.

So the gang at openpacket.org finally has made it to 1.0 and the website is officially open for business. Honestly, I’m quite happy to see that someone has finally made something like this available- Tcpreplay users have been asking me where to get pcaps for a long time. I’ve been talking about doing something like this for years, but never had the time, so it’s great that someone else ran with it.

Tcpreplay/Cabernet sites down for a few days

Posted by Synfinatic on March 7, 2008 in tcpreplay.

I’ve had to disable the tcpreplay and cabernet trac sites for a few days due to an incompatibility with Trac and Python 2.5 which was crashing Apache and taking all my sites down. Probably will be a few days before I get a chance to hack up a fix.

You can still download tcpreplay from SF.net.
