Prawn- not just for the BBQPosted by Synfinatic on August 10, 2008 in Cabernet. With the upcoming move, we’ll have to unload & reload our wine collection from the wine cabinet. For some people that may not be a big deal, but when you’re dealing with a few hundred bottles being tracked in a database, it’s important that all the bottles go back to their original location after the move. Hence I’ve been looking at generating a printable inventory that we can take with us for the move. As you may know, printing web pages doesn’t always give the expected results, so I’ve been playing with generating PDF files. Tags: Cabernet, pdf, prawn
On the failure to comprehend the definition of “secret”Posted by Synfinatic on July 22, 2008 in Security. This seems to be pretty basic and obvious, but a the first rule about keeping a secret is don’t tell people. Frankly, I think Dan should be pretty happy that the details about the DNS vulnerability he discovered took this long to emerge publicly. As he pointed out, 13 days are better then zero. Capital One makes it rightPosted by Synfinatic on July 21, 2008 in Cool.So I’ve been freaking out the last week after getting a letter in the mail from Capital One stating that my final payment of $73 on my car loan was 30 days past due. This was a rather big surprise to me since my contract states they are to auto-deducted payment from my checking account and had done so for the previous 59 months. To make matters worse, I need to keep my credit report in tip top shape since we’ve been approved for a home loan and wanted to make an offer on a house this month. Tags: capital one, credit, loan

Obama: Bad law is good enoughPosted by Synfinatic on June 21, 2008 in FBI/CIA/NSA, Politics. This is a pretty disappointing speech given by Obama on the recent bill in the House which effectively grants immunity to TelCo’s who helped the Bush administration illegally spy on Americans. Note to Obama: I fail to see how change happens by capitulating to the Bush administration. Tags: FISA, obama, spying
